New Year’s Eve is right around the corner and if you’re anything like me, you waited until this week to get your dress. This is easier said than done if you’ve made a commitment to conscious consumerism. Glitz, glamour and sustainable fashion don’t exactly go together — one of these things has not always been like the others. Thankfully, Junim Los Angeles is here to change that.
Junim LA, founded by designer Haley Solar, is one of the biggest up-and-coming conscious brands to watch in 2017. Earlier this year Solar opened the first Junim retail location in Eagle Rock, CA. Customers shop (and often sip wine) alongside the production HQ where she designs and sews each of her show-stopping pieces. A recent expose confirmed what many already knew and feared — most of your “Made in LA” products are still made in sweatshops. By offering total transparency, Junim is one of the few exceptions to the rule. You’re able to walk in, see the manufacturing process and meet the team. As if that wasn’t already impressive enough, 90% of Junim’s fabrics are reclaimed, and her bold designs guarantee that you’ll stand out in crowd. This brings us to NYE. If you want to make a memorable impression in a dress that’s eco-friendly AND glamorous (ecoglam!) Junim has you covered. Here are my favorites for ringing in the new year.
The Gold Lacquer dress is elegant and glitzy with a bit of an edge. It gets extra points for dramatic effect when twirling on the dance floor:
If sequins and glitter aren’t your thing, you’ll be sold on The Bardot Mini. This design evokes Stevie Nicks bohemia paired with Alison Mosshart-esque frontwoman fierceness — a winning combination. The reclaimed leopard print fabric never goes out of style, so you’ll find plenty of excuses to wear this beauty for years (and New Years Eves) to come:
The 54 Mini is another Junim headturner. This slinky long-sleeved knit will add sparkle to your step while keeping you warm:
