If you follow me on social media, you may not guess that between promoting #forgood products and selling fair trade tote bags, music is a large part of my life. Or, maybe you did guess, because while sitting down to write this, I realized that my very first post expressing my intention to change things in the fashion industry was attached to a Patti Smith video. Plus I pretty frequently describe my sustainable fashion finds by comparing them to my favorite rock ‘n roll icons.
Let me explain. Before The Tote Project I was the Music Director for a social media website, and while my work doesn’t resolve around that any more, my recreation still does. Nothing takes the edge off like being at a show, and when I’m not at a concert, I’m crafting content to a soundtrack that inspires me. Part of my old job was writing a weekly column called “New Music Now”, and I miss that, so I decided to revive it here. Music is personal to me, and I think this is a fun way for you to get to know me better. I get just as excited about introducing friends to new music as I do brands that I love, so I hope that you’ll enjoy listening to my selections while you check out the other articles on the site.
Today is Valentine’s Day, and if you’re a procrastinator like I am, you can shop my list of 8 #ForGood V-Day Essentials while you blast my first song pick — “Adore” by Amy Shark. Amy Shark is an Australian singer-songwriter who climbed the AU charts last year making it to #2 on the Triple J Hottest 100 – a big year end countdown. I have a good amount of readers from down under (Australia is ahead of the game when it comes to ethical fashion) so if that’s you, this is probably old news. Go have fun at her shows for me! For everyone else, I’m excited to share this spellbinding track with you. Whether you’re celebrating tonight with your significant other, Galentine or flying solo, it’s easy to relate to Shark’s longing for intimacy. We’ve all been there. Even when love is unrequited, adoration is thrilling.
Check it out and let me know what you think! What are you listening to this week? xx
