#ForGood Gifts Under $50: For Kids

Alright, let’s cut to the chase. Christmas time is here again, and this year we need to get our shopping done early so that we can enjoy everything this season has to offer, from office outings and Chrismukkahs, to cookie baking and church services. If you’re looking for gifts that are not only thoughtful picks for the loved ones on your list, but also kind to people and the planet, then you’ve come to the right place. I put together a list of 50 #ForGood Gifts Under $50 to help you shop ethically while making sure the most wonderful time of the year doesn’t break the bank.

Yesterday I shared my top ten gifts for men, and today’s installment is focusing on all the wonderful, future little world-changers — the kids. Check it out below and don’t forget to comment and let me know your favorites. Every day this week I’ll release another ten items in a new category, so keep checking back each morning. Happy shopping!

Homegrown Snappie

This “Homegrown with Love” snappie from mini + meep is as adorable as it is meaningful. Like everything else in their collection, this snappie was ethically sewn in the USA from 100% organic cotton. 10% of the proceeds from each purchase go to UNICEF to provide safe drinking water and essential nutrients to children in need. Plus, my best friend Fay is mini + meep’s founder, so I can personally vouch that everything they create is amazing!

Mushroom Rattle
Brand: Pebble via The Little Market
Ethics: Artisan-made, Ethical production
Price: $12.00

I was immediately drawn to this rattle because I gravitate towards anything that reminds me of the carefree Mario-playing days of my youth, but what makes this item really special, is that it supports the artisans in Bangladesh who hand make them. These artisans can opt to work close to home in rural, safe workplaces, rather than leaving their families to work in the city’s garment district factories. The rural workplaces and flexible hours result in an increased quality of life for thousands of women and their families.

Sea Monster Soap
Brand: LUSH

Turn bath time into an adventure with LUSH’s Sea Monster soap! It’s fun for baby, smells amazing and gives back. 2.5% of sales are donated to charities in Japan that create safe, outdoor places for children to play in after the 2011 tsunami and nuclear disasters.

Cuddle + Kind dolls make it on my gift guide every year. For each one sold, 10 meals are provided to children in need, and they are beautifully handmade by artisans in Peru. Kid Power Band
Ethics: Gives back
Price: $39.99

Last year the UNICEF Kid Power Band got voted a “Top Best Invention” in TIME Magazine, and this year it’s just as awesome. Wearing the band encourages kids to be physically active (sort of like a Fitbit) and when they meet their daily goals they earn points that UNICEF uses to provide food for kids in need around the world. Since it’s launch, over 200,000 users have unlocked over 6.4 million lifesaving therapeutic food packets, and saved the lives of more than 40,000 children! I know this is a gift for kids, but this is so rad that I want one!
